This scanner is awesome! So much easier than manually sliding cards over and over again! I scanned thousands of cards with ease!
I have thousands of cards laying around. I try to keep them organized, but every so often the new cards coming in make the system a bit frail.
TCG Archivist makes keeping the system up-to-date super easy. As long as the lighting in the room is good enough, I can scan a huge stack of cards in no time.
Zero regrets with this purchase.
*FOR THE PRICE*, compared to the scanners that cost way more than I'm willing to spend. This with manabox is the best you can get if you're not an actual store.
Thousands of cards in hours instead of days.
If you're having issues, lighting and phone positioning are absolutely key, I use a bendable phone holder over the plastic phone holder provided and once I get dialed in, lighting doesn't even matter, just minor tick adjustments as it scans.
Some nit picky suggestions.
- Attachments, such as:
a 4 point telescoping phone holder with microscope like dials for fine tune and fast
tuning (think framing your phone with a 5mm border).
- Quick swap trays, for continuous motion, or larger trays.
- A Pulse button, exactly like a food processor's.
- Have card count always be speed, I've found the count to be not relevant, personally.
- Toggle on/off over push button, combined with the pulse button of course.
If I could wave a wand and change 1 thing right now, it would be the phone stand, better stability for minor poking so scanning doesn't get messed up while making quick adjustments (Foil/QTY/Set).
Product works great. Unfortunately, none of the apps that work with it can recognize when there are 2 of the same cards in a row, without moving the camera away from the card. By no means is this the Archivist’s fault, but it is something to be aware of when buying.
The CS100 Gen 2 is a really nice tool. It was built well and has some small issues like card feed issues with cards that are static clinged together or slightly warped. But this can be mitigated. For the way the devices functions there is no good way to do anything about it and it isn't necessarily the fault of the Machine. It tries to do a good job and also not damage cards. There is a fine line.
As far as the good sides though it is amazing. With the addition of the speed control. It works wonders when having to go through stacks of cards. It took my 2 hour time per booster box down to 1.5 hours and that's rip to list. A very impressive time.
You will have to tinker with this device but that is part of the package with anything in this realm. Certain apps work better than others. You will have to make it work for you and optimize around it.
This device is the only one I have found in an affordable price range for both enthusiasts and small shops to be able to scan cards quicker without having to drop $5k on a fancy sorter.
